Custom Made Battery Cable

Custom orders take longer since we can’t build cables ahead of time.  We usually get them shipped in 1-3 business days.  However, it may take longer if we are very busy or if your order is very large or requires special order wire or parts.  Use our expedited “Rush” service if you need them shipped in 1 day or less.

NOTE: The “Rush” status is for the building of the cables and NOT THE SHIPPING PART.  We use USPS for our standard shipping method, if you require a faster delivery time, please contact our office, prior to placing the order, to discuss the order and the anticipated shipping costs.

Wire and Ends

I normally stock #6, #4, #2, #1, 1/0 and 2/0 SGT battery cable,  #10, #8, #4, #2, 1/0, 2/0, 3/0 and 4/0 SGX (high temp) battery cable and a few sizes of marine cable.  For more info click here wire sizes.
On the custom order form you have several choices of battery cable ends:
straight (most common), right elbow, left elbow, stud top/side post, ring (for the starter lug), or none (no end at all).  Flag terminals (for dual batteries) is not available for online ordering yet. To see pictures of the different types, visit my battery cable ends page..

When ordering, please specify whether you need a positive or negative cable (there is a difference in the cable ends), the length from battery post center to ring hole center.  Specify straight, elbow, or flag battery terminal and what size ring end (1/4, 5/16, 3/8, or 1/2 inch available although 5/16 and 3/8 are the most common).  Also, specify whether you need any additional “auxiliary” wires coming out of either the battery and or the ring connector ends.

Please note: I use 2 to 2.5 inches of thick wall adhesive lined heat shrink on the battery terminals.  That means an accessory lead is “one with” the cable for approx 3 inches from the battery terminal.  So, a 12-inch accessory cable only has 9 “flexible” inches.  Sometimes that causes problems…  I always recommend people order them a little longer than they think they need.  See a picture of the end of one of my Jeep Cherokee Battery Cables as an example. To place an order, e-mail me what style ends you want, length, and if you want any additional wires.

How To Use the Custom Battery Cable Form

Imagine a cable on a table in front of you stretched out from left to right.

The left terminal is what you want us to install on the left end of the cable. The right terminal is what you want on the right end.

Using the form below, select what gauge and color wire you want, the length, the terminal or lug you want on the “left” end, if you want a cover on that end, which terminal or lug you want on the “right” end and if you want a cover on that end.
Then if you want an aux lead on the cable select the aux cable gauge, enter the length, and which terminal you want. We assume the aux wire is on the “left” end.

When you are sure you have the cable is defined correctly, click the “Calculate Price” button. The description, price, a text box for special instructions, “Add-to-cart” and the “View-Cart” buttons should appear. Please review the cable description. That is the description we will be building your cable from so make sure it is correct.

If you want to add and special instruction type them into the text box.

To check out click the “View-Cart” button.  You can change the quantity in the PayPal cart if you want to.

If you want additional cables, just fill the form out again with new measurements and repeat the process…

Terminal and lug prices include labor and heavy wall heat shrink. Prices shown on the drop-down menus are for 2/0 cables. Prices for 4 gauge and 2 gauge terminals, heat shrink and labor are less than shown in the menu; 3/0 and 4/0 are more. The price is adjusted for this when the cable price is calculated. The prices for the auxiliary wire ends are based on 4 gauge; 6 and 8 are less expensive. There is an extra $2 for aux cable labor that is not shown in the menus.

Shipping is based on the order total and added on at the last step by PayPal. Small orders (under a pound) are 8 bucks for USPS priority mail, larger orders are $11 to $18.

A few folks have ordered custom made cables then realized the cables were too short.  Sorry, no one makes a cable stretcher.  Because these are custom, made-to-order cables we cannot give full credit for returns.  Please be sure of what you want before you order it.  It will save us both time, money, energy, and headache.

Wire Types:

SGT is standard battery cables rated at 80 degrees C.
SGX is high temp battery cable, rated at 125C.  The insulation will be stiffer,
Marine (or M) obviously is marine-grade (SGT-M) meeting specs J1127 and J378.
SO means Special Order.  This selection will take longer.

Please note that not all ends are available for all wire sizes. For example, 5/16 inch 90-degree ends are not available in 3/0 gauge and larger. If you define a cable that we can not build I will refund your money and suggest an alternative.

We normally spec our cable length tolerances as -0 to +2 inches from the center of hole to center of the hole (or end of the wire). In other words, the cable won’t be short but it might be up to 2 inches longer than ordered. Generally, we make them a little long. (Better to be a little long than too short, right?)  Making them a little longer makes it easier on us since we don’t have to work as hard to get the cable perfect.  However, sometimes, in special circumstances, (usually on short cables), this makes the cables longer than desirable. For example, if you only have room for a 6-inch cable, an 8-inch cable might not fit. If you need the cable to have a tighter tolerance ( ie +/- 1/2 inch) please make a note of it in the “Special Instructions” box that will appear after you calculate the price.  Say something like “Build as close to requested length as possible.” or “use short cable tolerances”.  Please don’t ask for this on long cables.  (Hey, I just don’t think an extra inch is really going to mess up an 8-foot long cable.)

1 inch, Aluminum Fiberglass Heat Shield Tubing

Non-expandable sleeving is a protective wrap made of fiberglass braid and coated with heat resistant aluminum material. Used to protect against temperature and abrasion.  The picture shows a sample wire we put in an oven with a piece of the heat shield.  the wire outside the heat shield was clearly damaged. protect your wires near headers and other heat sources.

Rush Orders

Rush Order Service Icon

Rush Order Service

Normal time-to-ship is 1-2 days. With our Rush Service, your cables will be assembled and shipped the same day or we will refund the expedite fee.  What this includes:
  • Jump to the front of the assembly queue.
  • Someone takes time from their normal job to take your package to the post office instead of waiting for the mailman to show up (usually around 9 AM the next day).
What this does NOT include:
  • Overnight or express shipping.  Items are shipped USPS priority.  Overnight UPS or Express mail gets very expensive because the wire is heavy.  Think of an extra $60 for USPS Express and as much as $100 for UPS overnight.  If you need this service call the store and we can set it up for you.
  • We will try to ship all Rush orders on the same day. However, we won't guarantee orders placed after 1 PM Arizona time will ship the same day.
  • Sundays and USPS Holidays do not count toward the time limit.
